Charles Henry Ashley

This photo taken in November 2010 on the Seine at Villeneuve la Garenne sites was sent to us by Oliver Gabriel ( see his website). It represents Charles Ashley, lifeboat (type Watson) built in 1949 for the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution ) by the shipyard J. Samuel White of Cowes. It then bore the name Charles Henry Ashley . Its name comes from the donor to the RNLI who bequeathed a sum for the construction nine boats. From 1949 to 1979, he fitted the emergency station Porthdinllaen then of St Davids and finally the Fowey from 1982. Withdrawn from service, it now belongs to an individual.
